A springtime engagement session in historic Charlestown, MA
We had been looking forward to this session ever since we officially welcomed Whitney & Sam into the Eisley Couple Community. Her first email to us started off with a casual “full disclosure, I've followed you on Instagram for years because I love love and your posts always make me smile.” Whitney continued her email by sharing with us their origin story. What we read next made us almost spit out our morning coffee from laughing and sealed their fate as becoming two people we had to get to know better.
“We met 10 years ago. It was the weekend of Obama’s inauguration. Sam and I were attending Barnstable High and both politics/history/social justice nerds who signed up for the school trip to go to the inauguration events. The bus there was an overnight ride, and I had come straight from a birthday sleepover party the night before and was hoping to sleep the whole ride. Turns out, Sam was seated directly behind me and wanted to read using the overhead light between our seats. We barely made it over the Sagamore bridge before I turned around and told him that if he didn’t shut off the light, I would shut his light off permanently. Somehow, he was very intrigued by my over-tired sass and we became best friends by the end of the trip. A year of close friendship later, we realized that we both had wild, 17-year-old crushes on each other and we’ve been together since! ”
From that point on, it was clear that we wanted to be the photographers to photograph this next chapter in their love story. Their origin story starts off with a moment that made me almost spit my morning coffee out from laughing.
Whitney & Sam are two of the most delightful people to walk around their neighborhood with. The historic Bunker Hill neighborhood of Charlestown, MA was a gorgeous backdrop of scenery for their engagement session. Once you start scrolling through these photos you’ll see that our time was spent laughing, reminiscing about my sister & brother-in-law’s wedding (he’s Whitney’s cousin!), and trying to tame the winds of the harbor - not an easy feat!
Not pictured: the bird that ever-so-kindly left a mess on Sam’s shoulder, the concerned police officer who came to check on my wellness when she saw me hunched over, laying on the ground while trying to take close details of Whitney’s stunning ring, and the absurd amount of puppies taking an evening stroll. My only regret is that we didn’t close the night out by hearing the cannons go off on Old Ironsides at sunset. I’ll have to put that on the Gagnon Family to-do list this summer!
(Fun fact: My Great Grampy worked at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard until his retirement. This was my first time visiting and I loved it!)
The next time you see these two on our blog, it will be for their wedding day blog post! You’re all going to love their summertime Cape Cod wedding. We’re already dreaming about :)
Picture this: on and off rain showers on a Saturday morning in the picturesque town of Whitefield, New Hampshire, where two adventure-loving souls, Shailagh and Gregory, tied the knot amidst the breathtaking backdrop of mountains surrounding the prolific Mountain View Grand Resort.
