Women's March at the State Capital | Providence, Rhode Island
January 20th, 2018
A 40 degree windy Saturday morning, I headed down the hill from our house here in East Providence to Downtown Providence to meet up with Molly + Amy. We started our day with some coffee + breakfast from Ellie's Bakery. It was my first time there and I'm absolutely smitten. Excellent service, scrumptious food (I had their special of the day which was Winter Toast) and I love me some sweetened iced coffee in a mason jar. After some good conversation, we realized that we probably missed the march over to the State House despite getting into town at what felt like the crack of dawn. We promptly left Ellie's in good spirits, caffeinated veins, and full bellies. Once we walked over the hill by the mall and the State House was finally in view, my heart swelled just like it did the previous year. A sea of humans gladly took time out of their day to stand peacefully side by side with their community members (children + dogs, too!). That's pretty freakin' cool if you ask me.
We heard powerful and impactful speeches (and songs!) from women in our community urging for change, giving us a clear message of what must be done and letting us know how to achieve these goals together. The major resounding plea: show up for elections + help get your community to the polls with you. Change happens with voters.
November 6th, 2018: All of Rhode Island's executive officers are up for election as well as a United States Senate seat and both of Rhode Island's two seats in the United States House of Representatives.
