How To Use Pinterest To Plan Your Wedding

One of the best free wedding planning resource is: PINTEREST!

💍Newly engaged?
🤷‍♀️Don't know where to start?
📲But you know Pinterest is a place people go to for wedding inspiration?
😳Does that feel a little overwhelming?
🦸‍♀️Friend, we've got you covered!

There is one thing that can help keep the wedding overwhelm at bay: an easy Pinterest strategy!

In this blog post we give you some tips on how you can keep organized = making your life so much easier when it comes to the upcoming vendor consultations you'll have! It's a pinning win. A pin win, if you will 😂

Early on in our career we, as wedding photographers, received many a Pinterest link to “wedding photography ideas.” While we loved seeing was going on in the mind of our clients, it would be a little overwhelming to receive a board of hundreds of photos with all different styles. We were left feeling like they totally didn’t “get us” or our style, and felt under a lot of pressure to get all of these “Pinterest-worthy” images throughout the day.

There is a much better way to tackle the art of Pinterest planning if you’re hoping to get your dream wedding vision across to your vendor team!

Tips to avoiding inspiration overload

01. Create a Master Planning Board

  • From your profile page, click ‘create board’

  • Name it something like ‘Our Wedding’ or something fun!

This is where you will pin everything and anything that you come across that you feel inspired by or feel drawn to in regards to your own wedding day!

(Tip: share it with your significant other so they can Pin too! The more you include them in the beginning, the easier it will be for them to stay involved and feel like this is their wedding too - because it totally is, right?)

02. Create Separate Boards For Separate Ideas

Now that your master wedding board is full of Pinteresty goodness, it’s time to sort that ish out!
Here’s the least time consuming way to do this:

  • Create new boards for every category of ideas you may need (ie. dream dress, wedding party attire, jewelry, hair styles, make-up inspiration, florals, venues, tablescapes, favors, wedding cocktails, sweets, invitation designs, honeymoon, advice, seating chart help, etc)

  • Scroll to the bottom of your master wedding board.

  • Click the first photo.

  • Click the pencil in the top left corner. This allows you to add a note or description (highly recommended so your vendors can know why you love it so much) AND you can re-assign what board it should be featured on using your newly created idea boards

(Tip: You really only need 10-20 images on each board for your vision to come to life)

03. Do you really like that?

With all those gorgeous curated images, wedding DIYs, and honeymoon inspiration, we can see how you might get lost in the Pinterest infinite scroll and end up in the land of the burnt out bride. That’s the exact feeling we’re trying to avoid, right?!

Remember, you only want the BEST of the BEST on your boards.

Here’s what you should do before re-pinning to your separate idea boards:

  • Why did I pin this?

  • What do I love about this pin? It’s value? It’s aesthetic?

  • Do I really need this pin on my idea board?

  • Are there other pins on the same board that kind of look just like this?

If you don’t know the answer to any of these self-imposed questions then get rid of it, or put it back on your master wedding board if you’re feeling attached to it in some way.

(Tip: I would do this every so often throughout your wedding planning journey. Tidying up your boards will keep your vision clear)

04. Use it like Google

Use your Pinterest like you would a web browser! You won’t believe how much more efficient and productive your vision board creating will become.

Looking for wedding cake designs? Type it in the search bar!

05. Save blog posts to Pinterest

Let’s say you come across a wedding planning blog (just like this one!) and you’d like to reference it later. Before Pinterest, you’d have to bookmark one million tabs in a messy folder on your browser.

Now, you can easily hover over any image on this blog post and save it directly to any applicable board! Personally, I would save this on a “wedding planning advice” board. (Comment below with where you saved yours!)

Why do we do this? Less is powerful!

The whole purpose of this is to be able to hand over your specific idea board to each specific wedding professional and have them know exactly what direction you’re headed! Your vendor planning meetings will be so much more effective. It’s very exciting to have a jumping off point full of clarity allowing your vendors to create your dreams based off of your vision.
